Egg Nog is one of the best parts about the holidays. You can disagree, but you'd be wrong. The 'warm cup of cheer' hot toddy version of egg not is a Tom & Jerry. Tom & Jerrys are basically a retro, hot noggy cocktail for those of us who could use a hug. On the inside.

Hot, boozy drinks sort of went out of fashion years ago. And cocktails with eggs are just starting to come back in cocktail bars in the area. But this time of year, throughout the Upper Midwest, you can find a version of T&J Batter in some grocery stores. My struggle with the grocery batters is that the modernized, commercial version is so sweet and gritty that it makes your teeth hurt. They took a light, airy, sweet confection and turned it into whipped corn syrup with a sprinkle of preservatives, and I just can't.

My version is just egg, confectioners sugar, vanilla, and nutmeg.
