Our family's farm is primarily a dairy farm, but we've always had an eclectic mix of fruits and vegetables, chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, pigs, sheep, beef cattle, etc.... that we raise just for us. Until I started this little pizza business here on the farm, and we started sharing our home-grown beef and pork.
These Berkshire pigs are my Dad's labor of love. The farm was originally a pig farm until I was 6 years old, and it never feels right when we don't have a few beautiful garbage disposals walking around. These pigs, specifically, were blessed with every broken pizza crust (from Italy no less), every orphaned morsel of cheese, all the leftover mac & cheese, cream sauces and cheese sauces for months, veggie scraps, every overripe tomato, and every windfall apple and pear on our property. Never before in the history of hogs have two litters of pigs ever been so spoiled. They eat better than me, and I'm not joking. Always antibiotic & hormone free.
They are some lucky hogs, getting one of the warmest and sunny Winters on record. They have absolutely thrived from birth. On warm summer days they like to lean against their water spout to flood the yard and make a nice cool mess of things.
Our pigs are friendly, docile animals that came into this world to be cared for, respected, and appreciated. Berkshires are a heritage breed, so the meat is a bit redder, more tender, and has more fat and marbling. It is our ultimate hope that our pork makes its way to people who will treat it well.
NOTE: Deposits are not refundable but they are transferrable - you may gift it, sell it, or share it with whomever you like. If you are unsure about freezer space, just make sure you have a freezer large enough to hold a big man if you had to stuff him in there.
